Kicking off in January 2025, GenPro’s Sustainability Think Tank is set to transform sustainability in the maritime supply chain.

The new initiative was first announced during GenPro’s 4th Annual Blue Day on November 6, 2024. The sustainability driven Think Tank is a collaborative platform designed to bring GenPro  and our valued clients together. The initiative aspires to build a dynamic forum for collective thought exchange, focusing on the future transformative landscape whilst integrating due diligence with strict ESG compliance.

Through our actions we strive to elevate responsible business practices within the supply chain ecosystem; this can be achieved by understanding and then reimagining how our members evaluate and engage with their suppliers.

By fostering innovation and collaboration, we aim to address critical issues in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) dimensions holistically.

Our planet is under pressure. Global warming, pollution, a growing demand for energy and the depletion of natural resources are becoming the norm. These issues, coupled with shifts in geopolitical dynamics, are leading to higher concentrations of greenhouse gases. As the climate crisis deepens, the need for decisive, systemic action is critical. While refining our processes for Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers remains important, we are setting our sights further.

Our vision is clear: To drive transformative change across the entire supply chain. This commitment is embodied in the Sustainability Think Tank.

Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of our agenda.

The Sustainability Think Tank will focus on identifying and mitigating the carbon footprint of supply chains, promoting renewable energy adoption, and reducing waste. By engaging suppliers at all levels, we aim to create actionable strategies that minimise environmental impact while fostering innovation in sustainable materials and processes.

We will champion initiatives such as:

• Establishing comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emission tracking systems.
• Supporting circular economy models to reduce resource dependency.
• Driving industry-wide collaboration to set ambitious, science-based sustainability goals.

GenPro is prioritising people, communities and the broader societal impacts of business operations. We are committed to promoting ethical labour practices, improving worker well-being, and ensuring that supply chains are inclusive and equitable.

Our key focus areas include advocating for fair wages and safe working conditions across all supplier tiers. We are committed to strengthening policies that combat forced labour, child labour, and discrimination. Additionally, we encourage community engagement and support local economic development in the regions where our suppliers operate.

GenPro promotes accountability and transparency as the backbone of responsible business practices. Transparent and accountable systems ensure that ESG commitments are upheld, and progress is measured effectively. We will work with members to implement robust frameworks that prioritise ethics, compliance, and risk management.

Our governance-focused initiatives aim to enhance our operations by establishing clear ESG performance benchmarks for our suppliers and encouraging the adoption of best practices and relevant certifications. We also promote anti-corruption measures while ensuring compliance with international standards and regulations.
